On May 10, 2018, the Blockchain Research Institute ™ brought together leaders in enterprise, government, and the start-up community across North America for a roundtable discussion on blockchain regulation. Nearly 70 global leaders in finance, law, government, academia and innovation came together in Toronto to discuss the implications of this new technology, and how best to craft policy that protects the public interest without sacrificing innovation.

The roundtable focused on regulation from a Canadian perspective, and specifically addressed issues related to cryptoasset regulation, identity management and Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs).

The BRI’s co-Founder and Executive Chairman Don Tapscott then drafted a comprehensive report based on the discussions in the May roundtable. The report summarizes the shortcomings of the existing regulatory climate in North America, outlines the challenges for various stakeholder groups, and provides a few key recommendations for regulators.

Given the crucial public interest such a report serves, the BRI has made this report immediately available to the public. You can read the report in its entirety, along with a list of the roundtable attendees, below.

The Blockchain Research Institute ™ hosts discussions like the regulation roundtable on an ad hoc basis. Participation or commentary in roundtables is another benefit afforded to BRI members. To learn more about becoming a member of the Blockchain Research Institute ™, click here.
